Report: Over 40% of independent restaurants are behind on rent

Forty-one percent of small restaurants couldn’t pay rent in May, a new report from Alignableshows. This rent delinquency rate is up 8% from April and 13% from February, and erases all progress made since October 2021.
This change is largely attributed to rent inflation, as landlords have increased rents in recent months, according to Alignable. Fifty-two percent of small businesses have experienced rent increases, which is up 6% from April, per the report.
Beer, the executive said, is still viewed by many as a bargain.
